Our patron Saints

When we ask for help, who would bother to listen to us?

Maybe, just maybe, these guys would know, if we bother them.

---

There are two main saints named Martin, and their patronages differ significantly: St. Martin of Tours is the patron saint of soldiers, the poor, and France, while St. Martin de Porres is the patron saint of social justice, racial harmony, and people of mixed race.

St. Martin of Tours
Patronage: Soldiers, cavalry, soldiers against war (conscientious objectors), the poor, beggars, tailors, and France.

Why: Known for his compassion as a Roman soldier who cut his cloak to share with a beggar, which he later saw in a dream as Jesus.

St. Martin de Porres
Patronage: Social justice, racial harmony, people of mixed race, barbers, and those who work in public health.

Why: A humble Dominican friar who faced racial prejudice but is revered for his charity, healing, and work with the poor.

St. Martin of Tours
is the patron saint of soldiers, the poor, conscientious objectors, and France. He is also associated with other groups like tailors, winemakers, and horses. His patronage is rooted in his life, particularly his act of sharing his cloak with a beggar while he was a Roman soldier.

Patronages

Soldiers: This is his most famous patronage, originating from his time as a Roman cavalryman.

The Poor and Beggars:
This comes from the story of him giving his cloak to a beggar.

Conscientious Objectors: His rejection of military life after his conversion to Christianity makes him a patron for these individuals.

France: As a revered figure in the country, he is considered the patron saint of France.

Tailors: He is the patron saint of tailors due to his act of cutting his cloak in half.

Winemakers: St. Martin is associated with winemakers, partly through a folklore story involving a donkey and a vineyard.

Horses and Equestrians: His military background and love for horses also lead to his patronage for these groups.

St. Martin de Porres

is the patron saint of social justice, racial harmony, and people of mixed race. He is also the patron saint of other groups, including barbers, the sick, innkeepers, and animals.

Social and racial issues: He is recognized for his work and advocacy for social justice and racial harmony. He is specifically considered the patron saint of mixed-race people and African Americans.

Professions: St. Martin de Porres is the patron saint for several professions that reflect his humble service, such as barbers, public health workers, and innkeepers.

Others: His compassion extended to all living things, so he is also the patron saint of animals. Additionally, he is recognized as the patron saint of the poor, sick, and those seeking racial harmony.
